Louie’s Italian Ice in Florissant, MO, is a veteran-owned dessert shop known for its refreshing Italian ice, creamy gelato, and strong ties to the local community. Located at 1616 Shackelford Road, Louie’s is owned and operated by St. Louis native, Army veteran, and former educator Jarret McBride Sr.

The shop offers a rotating selection of Italian ice flavors, including blue raspberry, cherry, piña colada, creamsicle, lemon, green apple, mango, chocolate, and a sugar-free tangerine option. For those craving something richer, Louie’s also serves traditional gelato in classic flavors, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and pistachio.

Guests can enjoy their treats on-site, thanks to the store’s comfortable seating area. For added convenience, Louie’s accepts credit cards and offers ample parking. Online ordering is available through both their website and the DoorDash platform.

Florissant Honors 50th Wedding Anniversary of Sam and Sherri Jenkins

The City of Florissant has officially recognized the 50th wedding anniversary of Sherri Lynn Claybon and Samuel Priestly Jenkins, Jr., with a formal proclamation. Mayor Timothy J. Lowery, along with members of the Florissant City Council, celebrated the couple’s milestone, honoring a half-century of partnership and commitment.

The proclamation commended Sam and Sherri for their enduring union and contributions to the community, marking this anniversary as a significant and joyful occasion in Florissant’s civic life.

The proclamation reads:

“WHEREAS: On July 5, 1975, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sherri Lynn Claybon and Samuel Priestly Jenkins, Jr. joined together in holy matrimony after meeting and becoming engaged while students at the University of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS: Sherri and Samuel established their home in the Florissant area over 45 years ago, remaining steadfast members of the community despite company relocations to Maryland and Alabama; and

WHEREAS: Sherri dedicated over 23 years to the Hazelwood School District, where she played a pivotal role in developing the Parent Teacher Student Association model at Hazelwood Central High School, and contributed meaningfully to social justice as a founding member of North County Churches Uniting Against Racism; and

WHEREAS: Together, they have been unwavering supporters of Marygrove, faithfully sponsoring events and contributing their time, resources, and leadership. Samuel, having served over 20 years on its board and Sherri, organizing lasting donation efforts and advocating for the children’s needs; and

WHEREAS: Sherri and Samuel have instilled their values of education, faith, and service in their family, raising two daughters and a granddaughter. Their devotion to faith and fellowship has been evident through their membership at Christ Our Redeemer Church in Black Jack and currently at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Florissant for the past 13 years.

NOW, THEREFORE, I Timothy J. Lowery, Mayor of the City of Florissant, MO, and members of the Florissant City Council do honor and celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Sam and Sherri in recognition of a remarkable union.”

This league offers 9 holes of fun, friendly competition each week in a two-person scramble format, providing a great way to stay active, connect with fellow golfers, and enjoy the late-summer season with a partner. Open to all skill levels, this league promises weekly prizes, leaderboard standings, and end-of-season recognition for participants.

The league will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays, from August 5 through October 7, with a consistent start time of 5:30 PM each week. The entry fee for the full season is $420 per team (2 players).
