Florissant Golf Club Completes Controlled Burn to Enhance Course Conditions

Florissant Golf Club recently conducted a controlled burn in select areas throughout the course as part of its ongoing course management and improvement strategy.

Purpose of the Controlled Burn

The controlled burn was implemented to support several key agronomic and environmental objectives:

  • Removal of built-up organic debris
  • Control of unwanted plant species
  • Restoration of nutrients back into the soil
  • Promotion of healthy growth for desired native plantings

This process is a proven method used in golf course and land management to improve the long-term quality and sustainability of natural areas.

Planning and Approval Process

Prior to the burn, the course maintenance team developed a detailed Prescribed Burn Plan. This plan outlined:

  • Project objectives
  • Fuel types within the burn areas
  • Environmental conditions including wind, moisture, and temperature

The plan was submitted to the Blackjack Fire Department Fire Marshal and approved before any work began, ensuring all safety and regulatory requirements were met.

Execution and Safety Measures

On the day of the burn, staff operated under the supervision of a designated Burn Boss.

All participating team members:

  • Completed safety training
  • Were equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Were assigned specific zones to manage fire intensity and control

The site was carefully monitored throughout the process until all areas were fully extinguished and secured.

Looking Ahead

The controlled burn was successfully completed, and the club anticipates noticeable improvements in the designated no-mow areas as they continue to establish and grow throughout the 2026 season.

Florissant Golf Club remains committed to maintaining high-quality course conditions through responsible and effective management practices.
