Lottie Woad Scottish Open Win Marks Historic Professional Debut

July 28, 2025 by markmusicrecordshop

Lottie Woad holding the Scottish Open trophy after winning her professional debut in 2025

Lottie Woad made headlines in her professional debut by capturing the 2025 Scottish Open title at Dundonald Links, finishing three strokes clear of the field. The 21-year-old English golfer, who recently transitioned to the professional ranks after an exceptional amateur career, led from start to finish and closed with a clutch birdie on the 18th to secure a 21-under-par total.

Woad, who held the No. 1 amateur ranking for over 50 weeks, began the tournament with a 67 to tie for the first-round lead, followed by a standout second-round 65 to take control. Despite a late challenge from Hyo Joo Kim, who briefly caught up on the final day, Woad remained composed. She answered with back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 to pull ahead and sealed the deal with another on 18.

Her Scottish Open victory caps a remarkable summer stretch. As an amateur, she won the KPMG Women’s Irish Open on the Ladies European Tour and finished T3 at the Evian Championship—an LPGA major—where she also set a new amateur scoring record. These performances qualified Woad for her LPGA Tour card through the LEAP program, granting her a two-year exemption on the LPGA Tour through 2027.

Chris Gotterup claimed victory at the Genesis Scottish Open, edging out Rory McIlroy and earning a coveted spot in The Open Championship. Gotterup’s win marked a major milestone in his professional career, securing his position among the top international players heading into the season’s final major.

At the ISCO Championship, William Mouw delivered a standout performance, shooting a final round 9-under 61 to win his first PGA Tour title. His dominant Sunday secured a memorable breakthrough on tour.

Grace Kim won her first major title at the Amundi Evian Championship in a dramatic playoff against Jeeno Thitikul. The tense finish capped an impressive week for Kim and added her name to the list of LPGA major winners.

In amateur news, Lottie Woad earned her LPGA Tour card after finishing tied for third at the Evian Championship, officially qualifying her for LPGA membership. Meanwhile, former NHL star Joe Pavelski captured the American Century Championship title in the celebrity division, highlighting his golf skills on a national stage.

LPGA Makes History: 17 Different Champions Open 2025 Season

The LPGA Tour parity storyline is dominating headlines in 2025, as the season opened with an unprecedented 17 different winners in the first 17 events. This remarkable level of diversity marks the first time in the LPGA’s 75-year history that no player has repeated as champion through this many tournaments.

A few standout stats help illustrate the scope of this achievement:

  • The 17 winners represent eight different countries, showcasing the global depth of talent.
  • Six of the 17 champions were first-time LPGA winners.
  • This new record surpasses previous season-opening streaks of 15 different winners, set in both 2017 and 1991.

While the absence of a dominant player—such as Nelly Korda, who had already achieved six victories by this point in 2024—might suggest a lack of star power, insiders view it differently. The streak is viewed as a testament to the depth, parity, and competitiveness across the tour.

Rather than one name repeatedly topping the leaderboard, fans are witnessing a dynamic mix of talent rising to the occasion each week. As the season progresses, the big question remains: Who will be the first to win twice?

The 2025 LPGA Tour continues to deliver surprises, and this run of unique winners is one of the most compelling storylines in recent memory.

Carlota Ciganda wins Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, securing her first LPGA Tour title in over 8 1/2 years. She finished the tournament at 16-under par, birdieing the final two holes to avoid a playoff with Hye-Jin Choi.

Lexi Thompson entered the final round with a share of the lead but was unable to close out the win. Struggling on the back nine, Thompson made three bogeys over her last five holes, including missed putts on holes 16 and 17. She finished tied for fourth place at 13-under par.
