PGA Tour rule changes 2025 introduce several adjustments designed to clarify procedures, support fair play, and improve the pace of play on Tour. These updates affect equipment replacement, course conditions, scorecard policies, and player timing.
Replacing Damaged Clubs
Players may now replace a damaged club—such as a broken driver—during a round or while play is temporarily stopped, as long as the damage was not caused by abuse. The replacement must be with a similar club (e.g., replacing a driver with another driver).
Loose Impediments and Movable Obstructions
The rules around loose impediments and movable obstructions have been clarified. Players can now remove loose impediments (e.g., leaves, pinecones) by any method. However, if the ball moves during removal, the player receives a one-stroke penalty and must replace the ball.
If a movable obstruction (e.g., a can) causes the ball to move during removal, the ball can be replaced without penalty.
New Pace of Play Enforcement: EAST
A new Excessive Average Stroke Time (EAST) policy is now in effect. Under this rule, players averaging 12 seconds or more above the field’s stroke time will receive an EAST designation.
- First and second violations: No fine
- Third violation: $5,000 fine
- Additional violations: $10,000 per occurrence
This policy aims to promote a more consistent and timely pace of play across the Tour.
Scorecard Correction Window
Players now have up to 15 minutes after submitting their scorecard to correct any errors. Committees are authorized to allow these corrections before finalizing the scores.
