Canadian golf history was rewritten as Aphrodite Deng, a 15-year-old phenom from Calgary, claimed the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. She became the first Canadian to win the prestigious title, securing the victory in a thrilling 36-hole final match against Singapore’s Xingtong Chen with a score of 2 and 1.
The championship, held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, from July 14-19, 2025, marks Deng’s third junior major title of an already impressive season. Her earlier victories include the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and the Mizuho Americas Open.
With this significant milestone, Deng has earned multiple major exemptions that strongly position her for future success. She now qualifies for the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club, as well as the 2025 and 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships. Additionally, she has secured a coveted spot in the 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Deng’s achievement is a major step forward in her amateur golf career and underscores her place among the sport’s rising young talents.
