Aphrodite Deng smiles with her trophy and medal after winning the 2024 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at the USGA event.

Canadian golf history was rewritten as Aphrodite Deng, a 15-year-old phenom from Calgary, claimed the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. She became the first Canadian to win the prestigious title, securing the victory in a thrilling 36-hole final match against Singapore’s Xingtong Chen with a score of 2 and 1.

The championship, held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, from July 14-19, 2025, marks Deng’s third junior major title of an already impressive season. Her earlier victories include the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and the Mizuho Americas Open.

  • J.J. Spaun: -2

Bryson DeChambeau Dodges Double Penalty in Wild U.S. Open Moment at Oakmont 2025

June 13, 2025 by markmusicrecordshop

Bryson DeChambeau, his caddie, and a USGA rules official discuss relief options during the first round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

The opening round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club proved challenging for defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, who finished with a 3-over 73 after struggling both off the tee and on the greens.

The biggest headline? A near-rules disaster on the par-5 4th hole.

After finding a fairway bunker, Bryson’s ball rolled into a spectator crosswalk, classified as ground under repair. He picked it up for relief and began lining up a drop closer to the green. But a USGA official intervened, informing him the drop had to be taken on the tee side of the crosswalk—and that once lifted, the ball had to be dropped, not replaced.

Then came the second close call: Bryson started to place the ball instead of dropping it—an automatic two-stroke penalty had he followed through. Thankfully, the official stepped in just in time.

🔹 Two penalties avoided
🔹 Just 12 yards lost
🔹 Still walked away with par

The rest of the round saw a steady front nine followed by three bogeys on the back—highlighted by a gutsy 25-foot bogey save on the 12th.

One of the more chaotic (and rule-filled) rounds of Day 1 at Oakmont.
